Riga Airport is Ready to Work with Electronic Passenger Registration System
Riga Airport welcomes the government's decision to set up an electronic passenger registration system and will provide all the necessary support for its successful implementation by intensifying monitoring and advising passengers on filling in e-certificates during the first week of the system's operation.
“Starting from the next week, 12 October, the electronic confirmation, which can be easily completed by passengers on the website www.covidpass.lv will contribute significantly to public safety, as it will allow state services to identify and warn passengers more efficiently in cases where passengers develop Covid-19 after their flight,” says Laila Odiņa, Chairperson of the Board of Riga Airport.
She points out that even so far, when passengers provided certificates in written form, the Airport, in cooperation with carriers, was able to complete almost 100% of the questionnaires. However, this was inconvenient for passengers and required disproportionate resources for collecting, sorting and handing over questionnaires to public authorities. Further processing of paper questionnaires by the State Police and the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (SPKC) was also inconvenient and time consuming.
As of 12 October, passengers will be able to easily and quickly fill in the new e-certificates on the website www.covidpass.lvbefore going on a trip to Latvia. By completing the questionnaire, travellers confirm that they will comply with national epidemiological precautions to limit the spread of Covid-19 infection. Travellers will then receive a QR code on the website and in their email, which will need to be presented on a mobile device or in printed form before boarding their flight. Carriers will have the right to refuse flight to passengers who do not have such a QR code. The certificate can be filled in not earlier than 48 hours before entering Latvia.
Since the control of filling in e-certificates in line with the applicable laws has been entrusted to carriers, Riga Airport will provide support to the airlines operating at the Airport by checking the existence of the relevant QR code before boarding aircraft, as well as by performing additional explanatory work for passengers.
In accordance with the instructions of the Civil Aviation Agency, in the first week of the implementation of the new system, the Airport will monitor the existence of QR codes for arriving passengers and provide assistance to those who have not filled in the questionnaire. Therefore, the Airport encourages passengers to keep their QR code until they leave the Airport.
Until 12 October, passengers must, as before, complete and submit a paper certificate to their flight crew.
