The members of the Nordic delegation, or NORDICAO, discussed the current situation in the aviation industry, as well as informed about the most important changes and challenges that each of the member states has to face.
An important topic of discussion was the upcoming International Civil Aviation Organizations Council (ICAO) elections in 2025.
In 1944, the Scandinavian States set up a delegation to the ICAO, known as NORDICAO. In 2014, the CAA of Latvia and Estonia also joined the delegation. NORDICAO Member States are Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Estonia and Latvia. NORDICAO is the first rotation group in ICAO. Its participation in the ICAO Council and the Air Navigation Commission is important.
NORDICAO Objectives are:
- To foster NORDICAO members’ aviation interests in the work of ICAO;
- To support the ICAO strategic objectives, in order to enhance safety, security and facilitation, environmental protection and sustainable development of air transport;
- To work for a more efficient and performance driven ICAO which makes optimal use of available resources;
- To strengthen ICAO's role as the global organization for developing and harmonizing aviation Standards and recommended Practices (SARPS).
This year, a meeting of the civil aviation oversight authorities of the Nordic States, or NORDICAO, was organized by the state agency “Civil Aviation Agency of Latvia”. The meetings took place on 8 July in Strasbourg, France and 11 December in Cologne, Germany and were attended by representatives from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Estonia, Sweden and Latvia.
