From January 12, individuals vaccinated or recovered from COVID-19 with an interoperable certificate do not need a negative COVID-19 test result for entering Latvia, except when entering from very high-risk countries*, when everyone requires a negative COVID test result for entry into Latvia. At the same time, all individuals entered will continue to have the opportunity to pass a free-of-charge COVID-19 test at the Riga International Airport upon arrival.

The requirement to report a negative COVID-19 test to individuals vaccinated against COVID-19 or recovered therefrom with an interoperable certificate when coming from the United Kingdom, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, Ireland, Germany, and Russia was imposed to reduce the prevalence of the Omicron variant in Latvia. This requirement is valid until 11 January 2022 (inclusive).

We encourage everyone to take the opportunity to pass a voluntary, state-funded COVID-19 test upon arrival. The laboratory point for voluntary tests for incoming individuals from Schengen countries is located at the exit of terminal E, while outgoing travellers from non-Schengen countries can pass the test in testing area C at the arrival terminal before the border control.

* Countries with a particularly high risk are countries where an epidemiological situation has been identified that could pose a serious threat to public health; see more detailed information on the website of the Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
